  33. Mrs. Shepherd, great attempt on activating the prefrontal cortex! With WBT, we want everything that we do to be quick and clean. We don't want one second of instructional time wasted. Some of your class-yes variations are a bit too long. It's ok to be longer if they include content (class-capital of Illinois, yes-Springfield), but the "fun" ones need to be a bit shorter, and should closely mirror the teacher's part. Here are 10 Certification points with a mega bonus of 10 Certification points for the extra effort!

  41. In my previous post from Chapter 5 I noted that I had previously started Class-Yes in my classroom. Maybe this is one reason I slowly stopped using it, I might have had difficulty coming up with variety. I’m not sure why I didn’t think to sit down to come up with other ways. So thanks for the opportunity to gather other’s ideas and keep these posted at my desk for future use!

    1. Verb Class! Predicate Yes!

    1. Class Yes
During the last two weeks of 2013 I found Whole Brain Teaching and tried class-yes. I knew there was no point in implementing WBT into my classroom, so I just starting using Class-yes. What a difference it made to my last two weeks. When students are checked out not listening, Class-yes worked wonders to redirect student attention. Here are ten variations some I have used and others I plan on implementing in the fall.
      1. 1Normal voice – Class –yes
      2. Classsssss – yessssss
      3. Claaaaaas - yeeeeees
      4. Whisper voice– Class –yes
      5. Class – yes with my hands waving.
      6. Class – yes – (Cl low tones– and remaining part with high tones).
      7. Class Class Class Class Class – yes yes yes yes yes
      8. Oh Class – oh yes
      9. Say the word class very quickly
      10. Class in a Mickey Mouse Voice (or Minnie, I might even try Donald or Daisy
      .
Through the book and various videos I can see how I will need to vary my “Class-yes“ to keep student attention. I am looking forward to seeing what else comes naturally as I use WBT next year.

    2. Variety is the spice of life isn't it Mrs. C!? 2 thoughts about your ideas - on #4, try having the students repeat the entire number sentence. In other words, you would say, "2x3 Class" and they would respond, "2x3=6 Yes". This will solidify the fact in their minds, even those who struggle with it. And on #9, just look for a spelling error. :) Here are your 25 certification points plus 10 bouns points!

    3. Diana,
Good job at beginning to vary your Class-Yes. Here is a thought for you. With even just 2 weeks left in the school year, be brave and attempt new things! We learn a lot when we teach something for the first time and it makes teaching it a second time so much easier! It's ok if the kids will only use it for a little while. The knowledge you will gain will put you so much further ahead the next school year when you implement the new piece again! Watch out for those pesky writing errors! (2nd sentence) Here are 20 certification points for you.

Good ideas to infuse content into your Class-Yes. One thought about #12 & 13 - when the kids give the answer, have them say the whole equation. For example, you say, "Class, 2x2" the kids say, "Yes 2x2=4". This will solidify the content in their brains, especially for your struggling students. 87. Chapter 6
I love class-yes; it truly is “Teacher Heaven”. It grabs your student’s attention and others from around the school. However, in order to keep it going you need to say more than just class and yes. Students have to respond in whatever way you say class. I introduce a new way about every two weeks to keep it interesting. Below are 10 of my suggestions for class. I love classic rock and that is reflected in my variations. I hope that everyone finds it enjoyable.

  92. Julia,
Good ideas for class-yes. I like that you used a mixture of everyday, holiday, and thematic attention getters. Just a reminder that when we do class-yes, the students are to fold their hands on their desks and look at you. Hands lead to distractions and if they are folded on the desk, the attention is on you, not what is in or around the desk. Here are 25 certification points!
